“Physical fitness is the first requisite to happiness” –Joseph H. Pilates

From Elation Pilates to Elation Movement Therapy

Before Elation Movement Therapy was born, there was Elation Pilates—a small, home-based studio that marked the beginning of my journey into mindful movement and functional strength. Elation Pilates offered personalized sessions on the Reformer, Tower, Chair, and Spine Corrector, blending classical and contemporary Pilates techniques rooted in the original principles of breath, control, flexibility, concentration and flow. What began as a passion for helping people feel stronger, more balanced, and at home in their bodies evolved into something much greater. My experience teaching clients of all levels inspired me to pursue a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, deepening my understanding of anatomy, biomechanics, and evidence-based movement science. Today, that foundation lives on in Elation Movement Therapy—an evolution of the same philosophy that started in my home studio years ago. While the setting and scope have grown, the mission remains the same: to help individuals move with confidence, age with grace, and feel elated in both body and mind.

Dr. Sylvia Banov

Physical  Therapist

Dr. Sylvia Banov, PT founded Elation Movement Therapy in 2024, harnessing her passion for whole body, holistic, evidence-based practice. She has been teaching Pilates and fitness for over a decade. She holds a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in health science and a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy. Sylvia’s journey into health and movement began with Pilates in 2004. She opened Elation Pilates, a small home-based studio catering to a dedicated clientele in 2012 while working on completing her 750-hour certification in Pilates mat and equipment through a Core Dynamics-based system. Alongside her studio, she has taught Pilates in a variety of settings, from large gyms, private homes, to outpatient physical therapy clinics. Eventually, she decided to further pursue her passion for health, movement, and anatomy by returning to school and expanding her career by becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2019. Sylvia brings her clinical experience back full circle with an evidence-based, holistic mind-body approach to movement, health, and wellness. This approach ensures multiple aspects of well-being are addressed, fostering a more balanced, healthier lifestyle. Like all things in life, as she continues to grow and change, so too will the method evolve. Come along and take part in Elation Movement Therapy, explore and grow with us.
